About

Joliet United Adjuncts Coalition, IEA-NEA ( or JUAC) represents Adjunct Faculty at Joliet Junior College.

JUAC was first organized in 2008 as local of the Illinois Education Association-National Education Association (IEA-NEA).  The first contract was bargained in 2010.  It took an extraordinary commitment of time and energy to get this organization started, and we acknowledge those founding members for the work they did for all of us:  Al Kennedy served as the first local President, working with a dedicated leadership team that included Jennifer O’Riordan, Christine O’Connor, Betty Jo Kennedy, and Betty Zacate.

JUAC strives to be a unified voice and strong advocate for all adjuncts.  During bargaining we work hard to improve salaries, benefits, and working conditions.  With each new contract the compensation and protections provided to adjunct faculty have improved.    And we regularly support adjuncts as needed by providing information, contract interpretation, and representation in employment matters.

A union is only as strong as its membership. And the union leaders are simply members who have stepped up to serve the whole membership.  So if you are currently not a member, please join.  If you are already a member, consider getting more involved.  Be a department representative.  Run for an office.  Ask about other opportunities to participate at the local, state, or national level.  Anyone who wants to participate more fully is welcome, at any level of involvement.  The executive board meets four times each semester, and any member is welcome to attend.  If interested, or if you want more information, contact one of the officers directly or use the contact form on this website.
